Who Was Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, Rajput Leader Shot Dead By "House Guests"

Updated: Dec 17, 2023

Mr Gogamedi formed Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena after he was expelled from Shri Rajput Karni Sena in 2015 over differences with its founder Lokendra Singh Kalvi.

In New Delhi, Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, a prominent Rajput leader from Rajasthan, was having tea with four other individuals at his Jaipur residence around noon today. During their conversation, two men abruptly stood up, firing indiscriminately at Mr. Gogamedi and leaving him in a pool of blood on the floor, as captured by CCTV footage.

The shocking murder of the Rajput leader has triggered protests in Rajasthan, undergoing a political transition following the recent assembly elections where the BJP ousted the incumbent Congress government led by Ashok Gehlot.

Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, expelled from Shri Rajput Karni Sena in 2015, founded Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena. Previously, he was closely associated with Lokendra Singh Kalvi, the founder of Shri Rajput Karni Sena. However, political differences led to the formation of the splinter group.

Gogamedi gained prominence for leading protests against the 2018 Bollywood film 'Padmaavat', starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor. The Rajput groups, including Gogamedi's, objected to the film, claiming it portrayed the Rajput queen Padmavati negatively. The protests, including vandalism and assaults, garnered national attention.

Additionally, Gogamedi protested against the police encounter of gangster Anand Pal Singh, asserting that Singh's death was unjust.

During the gunfire at Gogamedi's residence, one of the assailants, Naveen Singh Shekhawat, was also killed, while a security guard of Gogamedi sustained critical injuries. Gangster Rohit Godara, associated with Goldie Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi's gangs, claimed responsibility for Gogamedi's murder, citing Gogamedi's support for their adversaries. Godara, based in Canada, has numerous cases registered against him in India.
